BENEFITING: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
My life changed September 24th 2015. I remember getting the phone call. I was on my way home from band practice when my mother's name appeared on my cell. Knowing she is not a night owl, I was immediately alarmed . She could barely get the words out. “They found a mass on Lilly's brain.” Lilly is my 9-year-old niece. I was told they found a tumor at the base of her brain but, until I heard the word chemotherapy, I refused to believe it was cancer. Maybe I was in denial? That day my entire outlook on my life and my goals changed. It was like someone picked me up and shook me upside down. Cancer is a horrible thing! However, good can come out of anything even cancer. Lilly's had surgery to remove the tumor and was left unable to speak, eat, walk, or even use the restroom on her own. The future looked so grey knowing Lilly would require both radiation and chemotherapy. By mid October my family learned that Lilly was accepted to St. Jude's Research Hospital in Memphis Tn. St. Jude's has done so much for Lilly and my family. I have been able to visit the campus twice throughout Lilly's treatments so far and I have no words to describe how amazing the place is. Fundraising for St. Jude's will be something I will always take serious and encourage others to be a part of.
