St. Lorenz Middle School Choir at Carnegie Hall!
Organized by: Scott Hyslop
In January of 2016 the St. Lorenz Middle School Choir, from St. Lorenz Lutheran School in Frankenmuth, Michigan, received an unexpected invitation. A gentleman by the name of Mark Riddles who works for a production company affiliated with Carnegie Hall in NYC called me and told me that they had commissioned a new work for a large SATB Choir, Treble Choir, and Symphony Orchestra from the British composer Sir Karl Jenkins. As he told me about the project he mentioned that when it came to the treble choir part, conceived for voices of children, he could not get the sound of the Middle School Choir at St. Lorenz School out of his head. He then asked if there was any way that we could bring our choir to New York City to sing in the United States premiere of this work in January of 2017! After discussing this with a number of people we have decided to go for it providing that we can send all choir students who wish to go! Given that there are currently 77 students in the choir we have our work cut out for us when it comes to the fundraising! All gifts, large and small, are welcome...if you wish to sponsor a student the expected cost is $1300.00 per student. Please help send our choir to NYC!!
