Any race could be a life-changing event - but my next race will be a lifesaving event. As part of the American Cancer Society DetermiNation team, I am achieving things I never imagined I could accomplish. Yes, training is tough, but so was being diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer just one month after my wedding. As a Thyroid Cancer survivor, I will be running alongside 15,000 runners in the 2012 NYC Half Marathon with the American Cancer Society DetermiNation team on SUNDAY - March 18th!! That means every step I take and every mile I conquer throughout these next few months of training will save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. My journey began a month after my wedding in June 2011, when I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. Following my diagnosis, I had surgery in August with my new husband and family by my side. I had my entire thyroid removed as well as 4 lymph nodes from my neck. In November, I had follow up radiation treatment where I had to be isolated for 3 days while the radiation killed any remaining cancer cells that may have been left behind. Now I am a cancer survivor turned healthy endurance runner!!! I am so excited to cross that finish line next Sunday with my family and husband cheering me on!!
