For my first NYC marathon, I am advocating and raising funds for the grassroots organization, Women for Afghan Women (WAW). This organization provides front line support, programs, and services for women living within crisis in eight provinces in Afghanistan (Kabul, Kapisa, Mazar-e-Sharif, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Faryab, Sar-i-Pul, Nangarhar) and in Queens, NY.
As a graduate student at the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University, I have learned that stability can only come to Afghanistan by protecting the unalienable rights of half its population, the women. Although the U.S. and our allies will be withdrawing our troops in the near future, the women in this country will continue to face an uphill battle against human rights abuses. In order attain progress for Afghan women’s socioeconomic and human rights, it essential to support the WAW who not only protect women who are in life threatening danger but provide emotional support, economic empowerment, and education opportunities. Please help support the WAW in their fight for women’s rights in Afghanistan and help advocate for this issue throughout the international community.
