Hi this is Shyla and Stacy,
We would like to share our story and affiliation with the Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue (DLRR). We have some very good friends that brought us together due to my severe medical condition. In April of 2014 DLRR was contacted to see if they would take me and find me a forever home. I was nine weeks old and weighed three pounds (see the pictures below). I was very sick with an upper respiratory infection caused by my rare birth defect; I had a clef palate, that would require surgery to repair the roof of my mouth.
I was very sick and the infection had to be cleared before Dr. Nausley would attempt the surgical repair. So Stacy and Debra was asked if they would foster me until I was well enough to be adopted. On the first day we met Dr. Nausley inserted a feeding tube so that no additional food or water could enter through my mouth and I was started on anti-biotics to clear up the infections. Stacy and Debra feed and gave me food and water every two hours to help me get well, until I was strong enough to have surgery that was two months later. (See the photo’s below with my feeding tube)
Once I had my surgery I had to keep the feeding tube in for a little longer, while my incision healed, however that did not stop me from playing. The whole two months I never let my spirit go I ran and played with my sisters and my foster family who always gave me encouragement to be strong. Once the feeding tube came out I was almost five months old and I had never drank or eaten from a bowl, what fun that was I kept tipping the bowl over and spilling my food and water.
I was ready for adoption and thankfully Stacy and Debra decided to keep me, after all the trouble I caused them they could not stand to let me go so thanks to that first call from the DLRR I did find my forever home. Oh and by the way I still like to tip the food over and eat off the floor, I love my family and now we want to give back.
The DLRR exists because of the volunteers and the donations they receive. My medical costs exceeded $6000 dollars and DLRR paid for all of it, Stacy and Debra still volunteer and help to raise social awareness and donations.
As Stacy says it like running for President whether your Bernie, Hillary or Donald. If we could find 185 donations for an average of $27 we can meet our goal of $5000, and we won’t build kennel walls to keep us out but bridges to lead us across and into our forever homes. Please think about your social awareness and if you can please donate to help DLRR and save my four legged friends, WE can make Pet RESPONSIBILIY GREAT AGAIN.
