Stage IV Endometriosis Surgery Needed! Please Help!
Organized by: Michael Marquez
09/08/15 My name is Michael. I am new to fund raising website and know little about it. Forgive me if my wording is not perfect or I say things that might be considered TMI. But I am a blunt person and say things the way they are, forgive me if this seems offensive. I will also try to summerize as much as possible. Normally I would not ask for help because I try to do things myself. But when you have exhausted all other avenues, it’s time to reach out to others, who may have compassion. My wife needs surgery in the worst way which we cannot afford. Therefore I am posting this fundraiser request on behalf of my wife Melissa Marquez. Melissa is 39 years old and has Stage IV Endometriosis. She is in continuous pain and at times it is unbearable. Even though she wears a Fentanyl #12mcg patch for pain and takes 4 Percocet #10 daily, even with these pain meds, she still deals with pain which at times is intense. Several times a month we have to go to the ER in order to get her pain under control. The last 5 months my wife has not been able to work and is on medical leave as its extremely hard for her to sit for any length of time due to the pain. Since my wife deals with such intense pain day in and day out she has a tendency to go into depression and sometime suicidal thoughts accompany due to daily pain from the disease. She was first diagnosed with the disease in 2009 by Dr. Andrew Chern her Gynecologist. To remedy the matter, he performed two laparotomies, one in 2009 and the other in March 2011. In both cases he went in to burn off any Endometriosis where found. After these procedures she was doing pretty well until July 2011. In July 2011 Dr. Chern performed a partial hysterectomy in which he removed her uterus due to the Endometriosis. She improved but still dealt with some pain but it was manageable with over the counter pain relievers. In late 2014 early 2015 her pain started to get unbearable again and on February 2015 she had to have a complete hysterectomy. This helped some but she still had to take prescription pain meds to get relief from pain. Since she had a complete hysterectomy we thought she would soon be pain free after a time of recovery and healing. But gradually the pain got worse again. Since we were running out of options and answers concerning her pain, at the recommendation of here Primary Care Physician we went to see urogynecologist Dr. Michael Swan in April 2015. She was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis which is painful bladder condition and is incurable. The last 5 months she has been under going treatment for this which has helped the bladder some. During one of Dr Swan’s procedures on my wife, it was discovered that she has adhesions (Endometriosis) on her small bowel and her pelvic cul-de-sac was completely obliterated. In other words the Endometriosis has spread to other areas of her body. In most cases of Endometriosis can be cured by a partial or complete hysterectomy. My wife has already had these done but the Endometriosis has spread to her lower bowel. As a result, it is excruciatingly painful when she tries to sit or use the rest room. I am also concerned that it may have spread to her diaphragm and other organs. Through much research we have found that although most GYN physicians can treat Endometriosis, not all are specialists especially when it spreads to other parts of the body. We finally found a physician that is a specialist in Endometriosis. The physician is Dr. Kenny R. Sinervo who is at the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta GA. My wife is scheduled to have surgery there on October 5th 2015. We have put a $500 deposit down but we need to come up with $5600.00 more. Due to my wife being out of work, many medical bills due to my wife’s Endometriosis and other infirmities which she has had over the years we just don’t have the funds we need. Please help us as you can with a donation to this website. If you have any questions comments or need more information please contact me.
