BENEFITING: Hartford Interval House Inc
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2016
As the friend of a survivor of domestic abuse, I ask that you join me at this event or in making a donation. Domestic abuse is a personal and intimate tragedy that can take many forms and affect the lives of those closest to us, even if we don't know it. My goal is to raise awareness for the work that still needs to be done to end the prevalence of domestic violence, as well as to raise money for Interval House, which is committed to assisting and empowering victims.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, there were 41,446 reported victims of domestic violence in Connecticut in 2015, and among the more than 2,000 victims housed in CT emergency shelters, nearly half were children. According to the Center for Disease Control, In the United States, an average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute. This equates to more than 10 million abuse victims annually.
On October 27, 2016 I will be hosting the "Stand Up to Domestic Violence" stand-up comedy benefit to raise awareness for the silent struggle often endured by victims of domestic violence, and to raise funds for Interval House CT, a Hartford-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing services to prevent and break the cycle of family and intimate partner abuse. To learn more about Interval House, visit www.intervalhouse.org.
The event will include stand-up comedy performances by popular local comedians Howie Mason, Kristine Blinn, and Dr. Jay Sutay, at the historical BrewHaHa Comedy Club at City Steam Brewery in downtown Hartford. There will also be a variety of silent auction items and raffle prizes as well as full menu and bar available for purchase.
