Welcome to a little page that’s going to make a BIG difference in the lives of many rhino orphans in South Africa. Since you have already found your way to this page, we might assume you’ve come from our website or one of our social media pages and already know who we are and what we’re all about, so feel free to head right towards the DONATE button and support this very deserving cause. Alternatively, carry on reading below for a brief outline of this amazing project, which we are all very excited and privileged to be a part of.

THANK YOU HUGELY for your support and generosity...

From the StandUp4Rhinos team.

What’s this all about?

StandUp4Rhinos is a project by a group of adventure sports athletes with the specific goal to raise desperately needed funding for the rescue and care of orphaned baby rhinos in South Africa. The physical challenge we have set for ourselves is to complete the first descent of the huge whitewater rapids of the mighty Zambezi River on stand-up paddleboards. This has never been attempted! Our real success, however, will be measured by how much funding we can raise for our chosen beneficiary in the process. We chose $10,000 as a minimum target but we hope to exceed that by far!

(You can read more about the craziness of our Zambezi SUP challenge on our website or our Facebook page

So who is the beneficiary of this fundraiser?

Simply put, we want our efforts to benefit rhinos! But more specifically, the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary NPC - a sanctuary and care facility for rhino orphans resulting from the on-going rhino poaching scourge that is decimating rhino populations in Southern Africa. We hope that through the publicity generated by the #StandUp4Rhinos campaign, that a much broader awareness of the situation will be created and that this will have a knock on effect and ultimately benefit the threatened rhino population of Southern Africa.

It’s a terrifying and gruesome reality that rhinos are being killed for their horns at a rate faster than the population can breed, so numbers are plummeting and this means every survivor counts and every baby counts. This makes the work of Care for Wild critically important as these orphans don’t stand a chance if left to fend for themselves in the bush. These babies are rescued from poaching scenes and often come in badly injured and weak from lack of nourishment following the brutal slaying of their rhino mothers. At Care for Wild they receive specialized medical treatment, feed and supplements and much needed companionship with other rhino orphans, until such time as they can be rehabilitated back into the wild.

What's worse is that even with the sanctuary they are not totally safe from the threat of poachers, which is why Care for Wild has no option but to take serious defensive measures and employ armed rangers and highly trained attack dogs to patrol and safeguard the rhino orphans. The costs of this are astronomical and never ending.

What's the specific goal of this project?

The money that we raise through this initiative will be used to construct two strategic anti-poaching watchtowers and provide tactical lighting for the defence against any threat or intrusion by poachers. The estimated cost of this alone is $10,000 but it will make a huge difference to the safety of the rhinos in the sanctuary. All additional funds raised will go to the costs of medical care and daily upkeep and feeding of these hungry little bundles of joy.

What can you do to help?

Many people out there are aware of the horrors of the current rhino poaching war and wonder what they can do to help. Well here’s a way that EVERYONE can do something to help. Open your hearts, open your wallets and donate right here on this fundraiser! 100% (yes one hundred percent) of the funds raised will go directly to Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary NPC in South Africa. We’ve even added their bank details to this fundraiser so that the proceeds to go directly into their bank account... every last cent raised!

Care for Wild is officially registered as a non-profit corporation in South Africa, meaning that a business that wishes to donate can claim a portion of the donation as tax deductible. Copies of registration certificates will be provided on request.

The final word

As a team of outdoor and adventure loving athletes, we have decided to take a stand for rhinos and the brave custodians that protect them, and we sincerely urge you to join us, support our cause and #StandUp4Rhinos!
