I am starting the Stanley Ruch Memorial Fund to support cancer research and care at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston; the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the founding members of Partners Healthcare System (Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital ) consolidated their adult oncology programs and clinical research under Dana-Farber/Partners Cancer Care. Today, the three Dana-Farber/Partners Cancer Care hospitals serve more than 12,000 new cancer patients annually and comprise the largest cancer-care system in the United States. I know they give the best oncology care because my father, Stanley, received treatments there for his brain tumor 14 years ago.

So, how is my fund different? You will earn 1.7% (APY*) interest on your principal investment and then a 5% (APY*) donation will be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in your name every quarter. The original investment will not be tax deductible, but you will receive a quarterly receipt/statement of your donation that you can claim with the IRS at the end of the year. Withdraw your funds at any time; I just ask for a 60 day minimum investment.

*To be clear: you will earn 1.7% interest on the amount that you fund -- e.g. if you fund $100, after one year's investment you will have $101.70 in your fund. Why 1.7%? That is the current inflation rate in the US , so your funds will not lose any value. Then, by the end of a one year investment with the original $100, $5 will have been sent to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in your name, which you can claim as a tax deduction for charitable donation.

If you have some money lying around, why not keep its value while making a donation to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute?! I have always wanted to support cancer research/care -- this is the best way I know how!

Please feel free to message me with any questions or feedback. Thank you for reading my post and supporting my quest to incentivise donations to charity.
