Jacqueline Stein's Fundraiser:

STAR (Stop the Abuse of Rights)

Jacqueline Stein

My name is Jackie and I am young Canadian, born and raised, who has had the good fortune of traveling (living, volunteering, working, and studying) around the world and experiencing many enlightening cultural exchanges. Traveling is one of my greatest passions and this has allowed me to take away and give back so much to the world that I inhabit...

Currently, I am living in London, England, where I am pursuing my Master's Degree in International Communications and Development. My focus is on women's and children's issues globally, and my current research focuses on women in emerging regions who are utilizing Internet technologies and Social Media tools, and how these resources may benefit women’s personal and professional aspirations as well as the general advancement of their communities.

I am firm believer that, afforded the tools and resources, women and girls will realize new skill sets and achieve success in all areas of their lives, as well as make great contributions to our world, and I wholeheartedly support and encourage women who are self-starters, as they are some of our most undervalued and unrecognized leaders and change-makers.

As a fervent supporter of women's and children's rights (especially those organizations that are founded locally and work from the ground-up), I have watched, in awe, from the sidelines, as my dear friend, Olutosin Oladosu, started the inspiring organization STAR (Stop the Abuse of Rights), which works to meet both strategic and gender needs of women while educating children on prevention of sexual abuse in Nigeria.

Tosin's passion, strength, smarts, and ability to engage with people from every walk of life, has led her to mobilize an entire community of women, men, and children to action and to building a healthier and more connected community.

When I learned that Tosin, who had just moved STAR into its new headquarters in Lagos, was no longer able to access the Internet due to financial constraints and limited monetary resources, I myself was moved to action. STAR's success, thus far, is in part due to its wide reach and Tosin's ability to connect with people around the world and share STAR's work. I would like to see the organization move in the direction of upward mobility, and I was disheartened to learn that a small lack of funds has hindered STAR's ability to have a web presence.

I live by the motto: if you never ask you, you never get. So here is my ask. Will you support STAR with a small donation and help this wonderful organization and this leader in positive change get back online? The cost of Internet is $60USD/month or $720USD/year. My goal is to fundraise enough money (aka $720USD) to get STAR back online for the next 12 months!

And I know this can be done! Every donation (no matter how small) counts! Please help me in supporting an organization and a woman who has been blessed with a lot of gumption and compassion, but who has yet to hit that monetary jackpot!

(*Also, let's prove to her that, little by little and person by person, she is supported! She didn't want to ask people for money because she was worried that others were encountering their own financial crises with the economic downtown!)
