BENEFITING: Sheltering Arms Children & Family Services
EVENT DATE: Mar 24, 2016
STARS (Save the Age, Rebirth the Soul) is launching a fundraising campaign to support children aging out of foster care. All donations will support Sheltering Arms, an organization that supports the education, wellbeing, and development of over 20,000 high-need children and families in New York City each year.
When teens in the foster care system age out, many are met with the reality of having to survive without families or a support system. 25,000 teens age out of the foster care system annually and shockingly, nearly 25% of those teens experience homelessness within 18 months. Many of these young adults have no helping hand, and that's when they become a statistic.
WHAT IS STARS:
Founded by Equanna Hines, a student at the Harlem Children's Zone, STARS' mission is to let foster care kids who are aging out know that there are people out there who care for them. Once a foster child has reached a certain age, where they no longer get the services they need, that's when they need the most help. We want to give them back their light.
