Starting a 501(c)(3) charity for American veterans
Organized by: Andrea Hale
I am the granddaughter of a 100% service-connected disabled American veteran. My grandfather was a veteran of the 2nd World War, and a member of the US Army's 20th Division. He was injured at St. Lo, France, and suffered for the remainder of his life with injuries he sustained in that battle. I remember how much it meant to him to get together with his friends, and he kept in touch with others who served with him. He was, at one point, a Post Commander for the 29th Division Association's Post 5. I realize the importance of helping our veterans, and would like to start a non-profit organization that would sponsor fishing retreats for our veterans. I am first seeking help with the fees surrounding the establishment of the 501(c)(3); after that, my goal will be to purchase some wooded acreage where veterans can spend some time, fishing or just enjoying the outdoors. Any funds beyond the goal will be used toward purchasing some land for this purpose. After raising enough for the 501(c)(3) I will likely post another fundraiser to assist in purchase of property that will, eventually, be self-sustaining, with cultural activities and volunteer programs.
