Hi All! In October, I'm going to Durban, South Africa for six months to volunteer at LIV Village. A little about the village: -----LIV is an orphanage for young ones as well as a job-creator for adults. -----It focuses on family restoration and on fully loving children without a home. There are foster children, orphans, and children with their mothers all living together on the village. -----They are working against volun'tourism' by putting a ban on any pictures of kids' faces put on social media. They do not allow short-term volunteers to hold the children, so they can protect children from too many broken attachments. -----They really try their bests to provide for this community. For jobs, there is a welding center, culinary school, maintenance, community clinic. In total, LIV employs 1200 people in the community. With this area affected heavily by AIDS, LIV aims to provide a loving home, where adults can work and kids can simply 'be loved.' gives more detail on the village What I will be doing -----being flexible to what they need -----in talking to LIV, this looks like I will be starting a composting program there As of now, the village spends a lot of money on specific animal food...BUT with this composting program set-up, they would be able to use the compost to feed the animals, and put that money to another use. -----In addition, I will be helping with the daily maintenance of LIV, most likely working to provide/make healthy snacks and also to look after the housing situation there. Hey, you're awesome. Please keep me in your prayers. It should be a completely safe environment and I'm excited to use my gifts in a different place. A little story from the village that shows me the kind of work that is being done. A little boy was getting in trouble and a LIV employee looked at the kid and said, "who does God say you are?" The kid answered "a PRINCE" I want to work with such a place that focuses on WHO the kids are: completely loved children of God. (even in the midst of misbehaving)
