Catch A Lift was started as a memorial to Cpl. Christopher Coffland, an Army intelligence specialist who volunteered for service after 9/11 and was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan in November of 2009. A former professional football player and lifelong fitness enthusiast, Chris ardently believed that a fitness regimen not only leads to enhanced physical fitness, but also to greater mental well-being and a sense of empowerment; he articulated this philosophy every time he said he was off to “catch a lift” when he headed to the gym. Since our founding in 2010, we have demonstrated a need for wounded veterans to participate in organized physical fitness via gym memberships and team endurance programs in order to 1) complete their rehabilitation programs and 2) foster their integration back into productive society post recuperation. The need is profound and demand has been outpacing supply. The funds from this race event will allow CAL to serve more veterans faster and more efficiently.
