I am so thankful for all of the people who have supported my part of this campaign, but please don't think that we've reached our total goal if you see that my individual goal has been reached. You can help me over-reach my goal or contribute to the main campaign. There is lots more information on the main page about what we hope to accomplish with the St. Cecilia's Guild. Here's the link: www.crowdrise.com/StCeciliasGuildScholarships
I’ve had the inestimable privilege of serving in three previous choir residencies with St. Michael’s Choir, two of them possible only because of a ‘scholarship’ from my sister. In setting up this crowd fund-raising site, the choir hopes to create an on-going scholarship fund that will enable future singers with limited funds to be able to participate in this most inspiring and uplifting worship. This immersion in the best of Anglican music and service practices gives indelible gifts that participants are able to bring back to their home churches.
I am still in awe when I think of the first time we sang with a community of worshippers in a cathedral that held the prayers and voices of those who had worshipped there for more than 1,000 years. And the thrill doesn’t lessen with repetition! We first sang in Norwich Cathedral, begun in 1096. Four years later, we were privileged to sing in St. David's Cathedral (begun in the 6th century!) in St. Davids, Wales -- it's billed as the largest cathedral in the smallest town in Wales. Four years after that, it was the awesome (in the truest sense of the word) Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford. The first picture in my group is of the choir stalls in Chichester Cathedral, where we'll be singing daily services this summer.
I have saved up for 2 years to be able to be a part of the upcoming Chichester choir residency, but for my first two residencies, I needed a helping hand. We hope that by creating this ongoing permanent scholarship fund, those who feel the call to serve God in this way with their voices will be able to participate, too, regardless of financial status.
For any who support my fund drive, I can only promise that I will come back to St. Michael's choir with a renewed sense of purpose and better vocal practices for the enhancement of our collective worship. But for all, I promise to bring back for each of you an appropriate Chichester souvenir, hopefully something not available online.
I truly appreciate and value any help that you can give to this ongoing project to build the music ministry so that it can not only aid adult participants, but also to bring back the Royal College of Church Music curriculum to the youth choirs.
