All of the families of Roye Williams students will have the opportunity to participate in our annual STEAM fair on April 5, 2018 after school from 5:30-7. Our focus as a team is to improve student conceptual understanding and excitement in the science content. Since this fair is occurring in the same month as Earth Day, we plan to have an Earth theme and STEAM experiments revolving around that. Local organizations including Aberdeen Proving Ground, Vulcan Quarry, Science and Math Academy, and ECBC outreach will facilitate stations about their careers as it relates to STEAM and have an interactive activity for students to engage in. There will also be several teacher stations with experiments such as how does echolocation work, why is camouflage important, how to leaves breathe, coding, how can we build a bridge to withstand forces of nature etc. There will be three make and take rooms where students will apply STEAM knowledge and follow steps to conduct an investigation. Through this event, we hope to build excitement about the STEAM field and scientific processes. At the conclusion of the event, we will ask the families to fill out a quick survey to provide us feedback for future events.
