while the NYC marathon is a great event for exercise junkies like myself, it is also a gigantic fundraiser aiming to raise $1 million for charities per mile and I am happy to jump on the bandwagon!
My "running career" only really started after I stopped playing football (soccer...), which I had done for most of my life, three years ago. I mostly ran just to stay in shape but after a while it became a little boring without a competitive goal on the horizon. Thus, I decided to run a marathon and signed up for NYRR's 9+1 qualification program last year. 9 races and an afternoon spent gardening in Brooklyn's prospect park later, I had qualified for the 2013 NYC marathon. Now I am closing in on week 14 of my 18 week training schedule. Trust me, 18 weeks of running is a very long time and I can't wait to cross the start line on November 3rd.
Besides running and sports in general, I have always been a passionate traveler. Many times, I have seen (and experienced myself), that first class medical help and facilities are still very limited and often not available at all in many places on this planet. Doctors Without Borders is doing a great thing by filling at least parts of this gap and providing medical help to people who would quite possibly not receive any help at all.
Therefore, whether you want to support doctors without borders, make me feel good about setting up this page and give me some extra motivation for the race, or maybe just wanna make yourself feel good about supporting a good cause - I appreciate your help in reaching my fundraising goal!
