My name is Stephanie Retana, I'm from Pasadena, CA, and I will be attending San Diego State University to double major in Business Management and Psychology with a minor in Dance.
Throughout my life I've had to deal with hardships in my family, financially, physically, and emotionally, causing me to fall into a depression. This depression was so bad that it led me to have very negative thoughts. I reached rock bottom, but I chose to pick myself up because I chose to believe in myself and stop making myself the victim for things that are wrong in my life. I chose to change my mindset into a more positive outlook. I learned self-worth. I was able to become incredibly happy by engaging in my passions which are community service and dance. I released my stress and channeled my feelings by helping others in community service clubs and dancing on my high school's dance team.
In my future I will use my business, psychology, and dance degrees to open up my own dance studio. Then I will start a non-profit organization. This is where my passions merge together. I was never fortunate enough to be able to take professional dance lessons so it's been very hard to apply for dance opportunities. Therefore, I have decided to create my own opportunity. With my dance studio and non-profit organization I will help other dancers who also have a passion for dancing but for some reason cannot afford lessons. All that I will ask in return is for these dancers to help their communities. I want them to know that someone believes in their dream. I hope you believe in mine as well.
Thank you for your time, I hope you have a beautiful day. ♥
