BENEFITING: Jrs Pups N Stuff Dog Rescue
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Hi there! We are a team of active volunteers and fosters for JR's Pups-N-Stuff in Milwaukee, WI. We are a non-profit animal rescue who largely focuses on saving dogs from high-kill shelters located in various areas across the USA. Through our rescue we are able to save approximately 1000 animals per year; a large number which has only steadily increased over the past decade. Unfortunately, this is not even a drop in the bucket when it comes to the numbers of animals living or being euthanized in shelters nationwide. As a rescue, our goal is not only to decrease shelter numbers, but also to educate communities about the benefits of spaying and neutering; the real answer to the problem at hand.
While the emotional benefits are deep and wide in regards to saving an animal's life, the costs do unfortunately generally run high. JR's not only incurs feeding, medical, and transportation costs for all their animals, but also maintains a shelter. To help offset our costs, we will be running in the Milwaukee Running Festival on November 6 on behalf of JR's.
The reason we choose to work with JR's is their unwavering dedication to animals who would generally otherwise be overlooked for medical concerns (cases including but not limited to heartworm positive, broken limbs, necessary surgeries, amputees, etc.). Jr's not only pulls these 'special needs' animals from the shelters, but also pays for them to receive treatment in rescue, ensuring them a far better happily ever after than many could have ever dreamed of.
While our volunteer group does their best to fund raise and collect donations, every month is stressful in regards to funding. A sample of extremely approximate cost can be as follows:
Transportation to WI: $20 (depending on mode of transportation)
Food while in rescue: $40 (depending on length of time in rescue)
Heartworm test: $40
Standard Medicines upon entering rescue: $40
Heartworm positive treatment: $1400
Treats, toys, cages, etc.: $100
Mind you, this is per animal, IF that animal is in top-health and has no outside-of-the-ordinary costs, which is rarely the case. We are trying our best, but we cannot do it alone. Other needs which go unnoticed are the need for new(er) XL laundry machines (we work out of four donated machines which constantly run), the removal and replacement of a current carpet in the office space (carpet and dog rescues just don't tend to mix well..), maintenance of our rescue van, and many additional costs.
Even $5 will help us get that much closer to saving just one additional life this year. That's one more tail-wag, one more purr, an additional happy chirp, or maybe even the most thankful of squeaks.
