BENEFITING: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
EVENT DATE: Jun 22, 2014
Hi All – As many of you know, I’m running in the Fairfield Half Marathon Sunday June 22nd! I’m running it as a member of Team Hole in the Wall to provide ‘a different kind of healing’ for children and families who are battling serious illness. This healing happens at the Camp….
What does this camp do?
In 1988, Paul Newman opened The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut so that children coping with serious illnesses could have a special hideout where they could simply be kids. The Camp, which served 288 campers its first year, has 25,000 children and family members now experiencing “a different kind of healing” annually. Each year, 2,500 are served onsite and 20,000 visits by the Hospital Outreach Program bring the fun and friendship of Camp into more than 25 sites throughout the Northeast – all free of charge. Click attached link for more info!
It takes $2,500 to sponsor one child – so that’s my goal! It’s a stretch goal and well worth the experience we can give to that child. Those funds underwrite the expense of transportation to Camp, medical care, ’round-the-clock supervision, activities, meals and everything needed to make Camp a magical and unforgettable experience in the life of a seriously ill child. Thanks to our generous donors, all of our services are provided free of charge.
So how do I go about preparing to run 13.1 miles you ask? Lots of running, fewer Oreo cookies and inspiration from knowing I’ll be helping a serious ill child.
So….this is the link which you can use to donateJ!
The race is in a week and a half, so I’m late in getting this out. Please help me by checking out the link and donating any amount you wish – by Saturday June 21stJ The website does provide emails as receipts for tax purposes. I can also accept donations in cash and checks – and I’ll simply forward the money.
