I assisted the Mangrove Action Project (MAP) on Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration projects (CBEMR) in Thailand in 2009/2010, and witnessed the positive impacts of their efforts. After working with MAP, I went on to concentrate my MESc research at Yale's School of Forestry and Environmental Studies on understanding how to improve local capacity to conserve and benefit from coastal mangrove systems.
The importance of MAP's work can't be stated enough. With greater human reliance on coastal areas and increased coastal populations, it is imperative that we develop sustainable development strategies that are beneficial to both the envrionment and those who rely on it. The Mangrove Action Project's CBEMR projects play a crucial role at the ground level in doing just that. A quick internet search under "mangrove conservation" will often reveal MAP as a top resource, a resource that has ardently tackled and spread the word on some of the most pressing coastal conservation concerns worldwide.
I urge you to support the campaign and assist this project in reaching its goal!
