When I sit in a classroom, observing the other students, one question always sticks out in my head. "Which one was I? Where is the kid with all the ideas that was forced to change in a separate locker room, because he was different?" My middle school career was a terrible time. I was bullied, belittled and abused. I always blamed myself. I always assumed that it was my fault. "I'm different, I don't fit in. I deserve this." Isn't that how society raises us? The teachers noticed, but did nothing. Luckily, I placed more faith in myself and overcame these life-hindering challenges. Most people, however, are not so lucky. There are numerous people in our "land of the free and home of the brave" that do not have a voice.
