BENEFITING: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
I served in the US Navy as a Nuclear Machinist's Mate prior to breaking my leg and receiving a medical retirement. I have been running for 4 years (after nearly 7 years being unable to walk without crutches or a cane) in order to rehab my leg and raise my outlook on life. I know that I am one of the lucky ones and there are many other service members who will never be able to run and play with their children the way I can. Therefore, I am hoping to raise money to support the Wounded Warrior Project through my entrance (& completion) of multiple endurance races over the next several years. I have completed multiple half marathons, 5Ks, and other short races, but I haven't completed a marathon...YET. I have committed to running the St. Jude Marathon in December 2013 (http://heroes.stjude.org/stephen-wren) as a St. Jude Hero where I aim to raise at least $1000 as an indivual and at least $2000 with my team A Good Case of the Runs. After I complete these races, I plan to continue my training so that I can run at least four races in 2014, the Scenic Cirt Trail Marathon, the Marine Corps Historic Half in Fredericksburg, VA, the Charleston Marathon, and ... hmmm....something else. I have yet to decide what I will do beyond next year, but it looks like it will be fun finding out.
I plan to donate all of the money I raise to the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/) so they can continue their efforts to support the men and women serving our nation. (I currently run b/w 25 & 45 miles / week on roads and trails around my home near Chattanooga, TN - this fluctuates depending on whether I am on my hard or easy weeks.) Feel free to contact me if you would like information on how you can help or if you want to support me in a non-monetary way.
