Since 1976, Stepping Stone has focused on providing recovery services for the San Diego LGBT community. Over its 39 year history, Stepping Stone has helped thousands of men and women recover from a seemingly hopeless life of alcoholism, drug addiction, and co-occurring disorders and situations that often accompany those issues.
Stepping Stone: Saving Lives.
HOW WE’RE SAVING LIVES
Stepping Stone is one of the few LGBT-focused residential recovery centers in the nation. Each year, we help over 100 new individuals who want to be treated for their drug and alcohol problems. We do not discriminate on the basis of ability to pay – we have programs available that cover most if not all of the cost of our program, and we have a limited number of beds available for private-pay clients as well.
Stepping Stone is a hybrid social model recovery program, where residents undergo intensive education, counseling and exposure to 12-step and other recovery programs, and sets an effective foundation for a life free of drugs and alcohol.
In addition, we treat the whole person at Stepping Stone, addressing long-neglected “other issues” such as mental health, HIV and AIDS, and trauma. We believe – and our statistics support – that our holistic approach leads to excellent success for our residents.
SUPPORT STEPPING STONE
So many have been touched by Stepping Stone and consider us to be a great asset to the city and our communities. We are grateful to receive some funding from the County of San Diego to provide our services, but it does not cover all of our costs. We rely on outside support to continue our mission.
