ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
Raising for is a trauma center at Brigham and Women’s hospital built up after the bombing in 2013 and dedicated to a teenager who was critically injured in that bombing and whose life was saved at the hospital.
The Boston Marathon is a big deal around here. It's Patriot's Day. A holiday in Massachusetts.
I did it once, three years ago and it was a questionably rewarding experience. I barely missed what I felt was a semi-respectable time of four hours.
I've got to conquer this beast.
And to do so, I've got to raise some serious dough for an exceptional cause.
Please help! (and please suggest an audio book for me to listen to while running!)
Official Information from Brigham and Women's Hospital on what your donation supports:
On April 15, 2013, Gillian Reny was one of the many innocent bystanders critically injured at the finish line in the Boston Marathon bombings. She was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), where doctors and nurses worked heroically to save her life—and both of her legs. In gratitude to BWH, the Reny family established the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation to help trauma patients like Gillian regain their strength and ability to step strong once again. To date, the center has raised more than $9 million to support trauma innovation and recovery while upholding the Boston Strong spirit that defined the aftermath of the marathon tragedy.
Although trauma accounts for 41 million Emergency Department visits a year and is the leading cause of death for people ages 1-46 in the United States, funding for trauma research and care is scarce. The 2017 BWH Stepping Strong Marathon Team will advance BWH’s commitment to turn tragedy into hope for citizens, military personnel, and families worldwide who have been impacted by the devastation of traumatic injuries and events.
Thank you for supporting this extraordinary group of runners. Learn more about the Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation.
