BENEFITING: Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi
Sophie was diagnosed a Type 1 diabetic (T1D) on January 28, 2016 at an early age of 3. The endless range of emotions when our baby girl, our innocent child, was diagnosed was beyond measure......scared, worried, lost....wondering what we did wrong, why her....why not me, her mother....take it from her and give it to me. We are now past her 1 year diaversary (what T1Ds call each year on the day they were diagnosed) and we have taught ourselves how to care for our T1D, how to count her food intake, how to give her the 4 injections she requires every day to live and we have learned patience and empathy. We have learned that society really doesn't know a lot about Type 1 diabetes and the cruelty of this chronic disease that has overcome our sweet baby girl's life and the life we once knew. Although with each person we teach, that is one more person informed, one more person to hopefully donate, one more person to help fund research and one more person who, with their donation, can help find a TRUE CURE for this relentless disease that has to be managed on a daily basis...some days on an hourly basis. Our fundraiser is to raise money for the Diabetes Foundation of MS to help the foundation with their mission of helping families cope with the emotions of a newly diagnosed family, of helping families with the emergency supplies if the need arises, and for the continuing lobbying efforts to promote community awareness, lobby for more funding for research, assistance and support of families affected by this disease.
