BENEFITING: The University of Virginia Health Foundation
As many of you know, since October of 2012 I have been focusing a lot of energy on getting healthy. It started by walking 20 minutes a day 3 to 4 times a week and finally listening to Theresa about making smarter food choices. Now as we begin 2014, I can tell you that I have lost 70 pounds, walk at least 60 minutes a day, and am eating much healthier (most of the time!)
So I would like to share with you what my goal is for 2014 and what my motivation is for this goal. My goal is to give $1.00 for each mile I walk this year to a special cause which is near and dear to my heart. As you may or may not know, my son, Mike, has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia, LGL Leukemia. Because this type of blood cancer only affects about 1000 people per year, not many research dollars go to finding a cure. I will be donating my walking dollars to the University of Virginia Cancer Center where Dr. Thomas Loughran, who discovered LGL leukemia, is doing research on this specific cancer to find better treatments and a cure. You can find out more about LGL leukemia at http://uvahealth.com/services/cancer-center/conditions-treatments/hematological-malignancies/lgl-leukemia/?searchterm=LGL and more about Dr. Loughran at http://uvahealth.com/doctors/physicians/thomas-loughran.
So in summary, my focus for 2014 is to stay healthy and give to the research that will keep my son healthy! Follow my progress on this site and any words of encouragement throughout the year would be appreciated. I challenge all of you to join me and get healthier in 2014. Please help me by donating to Dr. Loughran's research through this fundraising page.
