BENEFITING: US Association for UNHCR
EVENT DATE: Sep 07, 2015
Millions of refugees are fleeing violence in Syria and other war-torn countries, flooding into Europe seeking refuge. The places they are trying to reach are turning their backs, and thousands are dying at the hands of nature and neglect. The crisis is now reaching a fever pitch, but the story has been in the making for years. There are 4 million refugees displaced from Syria alone, including 1.5 million Syrian children.
As I have been heartbroken by the response of the European and U.S. governments, I was particularly touched by the story of 11,000 Icelandic citizens offering their homes and aid to the refugees. It reminded me that people do care and there is a special role for individuals across the ocean. We don't have to be bystanders, we can help.
Please join me in donating to the UN Refugee Agency to fund basic and necessary humanitarian aid - cash for medicine and food, stoves and fuel for heating, insulation for tents, thermal blankets and winter clothing. 97% of raised funds go directly to aid.
