Please help families of fallen service members by supporting my efforts to run the Boston Marathon this April. The Mass Military Heroes Fund and the families they support need the help.
Last April I had the great honor of running the Boston Marathon in support of the Mass Military Heroes Fund (MMHF), an organization I co-founded to support the families of the fallen in Massachusetts.
As a lifelong Bay Stater, it was always a dream of mine to run the historic Boston Marathon, but I had no idea what impact it would have on me and on the MMHF. I had lost almost 70 pounds when I started my training and thought this would be a long shot opportunity to raise a few dollars for a worthy cause.
My goal was a simple one, raise $1,000 for each mile I ran for a total of $26,200. It seemed like a big reach but big things aren’t attained if you don’t reach for them. So I trained, raised and ran.
At mile one I knew this would be my one chance and so I began savoring the experience and it was amazing. When I reached mile 24 and had to re-teach my legs how to work I confirmed to myself what I already knew “this was my one and only marathon”. However, because of so many great friends and supporters, when I FINALLY crossed the finish line in Copley Square and declared myself a “retired marathoner”, I found out that I had raised $37,000 in donations to support the families of service members who gave what Lincoln called “the last full measure of devotion”.
$37,000 toward financial and clinical support, community building, referral consultations and other critical services to these families who deserve our devotion for the unbearable sacrifices they have paid. When I realized how far we could stretch that money and frankly how much more was needed, I knew I had to do it again……so……I am back training.
Here is your chance to be a part of something really special and to support the MMHF. So please join me in supporting these families who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom by sponsoring my run this April 16th.
My goal is again a big one, $1,000 a mile, but so is the work that the MMHF does.
Please be a part of a special day and support a great cause.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might be able to donate too!
