Help me finish the final design of my prototype with dad.
Organized by: Steven Banning
Hello! My name is Steven Banning and I created a metal prototype tool that I am overcome with joy about. Something very near and dear to my heart. The idea was created out of the fundamental passions my dad taught me growing up; Welding and Metalwork. My dad became a welder straight out of high school working maintenance in a train yard. Before that he grew up as a potato farmer. He taught me many of the lessons he learned growing up and having to work such dirty and difficult jobs. When I was in high school, he started his own welding shop. It was the shop of his dreams filled with all the tools and materials he needed to live his profession with passion and provide for his family. A few years later, my dad was among the many who were affected by the stock market crash of 2008. He ended up having to bankrupt his business and salvaged what tools he could. It's been 3 years since I've had the opportunity to go back home and see my parents who are both now over 70. I worked several decent paying office jobs to save up all my money to move to LA. I am currently a freelance photographer attempting to work full time at the time I came up with this new product idea which is now my absolutely driving force in life. Unfortunately, photography is a busy industry here and with this as a distraction I have decided to pursue this new project 200%. My father is well aware of the prototype and can't wait for me to get down there to do something that we have a unique and deep bond with. My father is 74 next year and still works a Monday - Friday job. Bless his heart, but I'd like to give everything I can and build some amazing leverage for this experience to succeed. My father's dad had a selfish and tragic end to life and it's been my blood boiling desire to show him that through great tragedy can come 100x joy than you could ever imagine. I battled addiction with alcohol for 8 years of my life and became completely sober last year for good. My father is still a heavy drinker and if I had the opportunity to make some life changing difference that resonated with him it could save him from an early grave. I'm in the process of selling some of my camera gear to fund this journey which is rather bittersweet because I became a photographer to capture the moments and see the beauty life has to offer instead of drowning it out with distraction. The fundraiser is to cover the expenses of traveling down to Idaho as soon as possible and for materials to build a final prototype and hopefully get back down to LA so I can make this dream a reality.
