BENEFITING: American Red Cross
CHANGE OF PLANS!!! Hurricane Sandy changed a lot of things for a lot of people. I was planning to run the Philly Marathon next weekend in support of the MDS Foundation in memory of my dad Hersh, who passed away in September from consequences of Myelodisplastic Syndrome.
But, two weeks ago, Hurricane Sandy changed everything for tens of thousands along the East Coast. We've all seen the unbelievable images from New York and New Jersey since then, and it's clear that the situation is improving all too slowly, with many of our fellow citizens still in dire need. So, I'm calling an audible and asking for support for the American Red Cross as they reach out to help with ongoing disaster relief efforts.
NOTE: in addition to or in lieu of contributing to the Red Cross, please consider donating PLATELETS to the American Red Cross. Blood supplies in the affected areas are in short supply, and platelets are especially needed. Platelet donation ("apheresis") takes several hours, is kind of a pain, and rather boring... but platelets are always in short supply due to their limited shelf life (just a few days). Truly, a platelet donation is a life-sustaining gift. For more information please see http://www.redcrossblood.org/donating-blood/types-donations/platelet-donation
