BENEFITING: F C CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Sep 26, 2015
I'm sorry if you're offended or have a problem with the word FUCK, Well I'm offended and have a problem with the word CANCER!
About a month ago I decided that I wanted to take my passion for fitness and start training towards something. The next day I signed up for the next possible race I could get myself into. After a couple weeks on the waiting list I was accepted into the Hamptons Half Marathon taking place on September 26th, 2015.
Rather than just run, I wanted to run with a purpose, I wanted to raise money and run for a cause. I thought about it, and while getting choked up, all I could think to myself was FUCK CANCER. 12 years ago, my mother lost her 2nd fight with cancer. Cancer has won too many battles, and claimed far too many lives.
I Googled ‘fuck cancer’, and not only was it already a huge organization, but it’s mission was completely on point with my thought process and goal.
I wanted to be involved with raising money to help be more preventative with the fight and not just be involved with raising money for cancer research.
Over the past 50 years, billions of dollars have been spent on research and treatment of cancer while funding for prevention and management has been neglected. Approximately 50% of all cancers are preventable. However in 2012 the National Cancer Institute spent more than $3 billion for basic research and treatment with only $232 million (7.7%) going towards prevention and control!
All money donated towards my run will be donated directly to Fuck Cancer. Fuck Cancer is dedicated to providing early detection, prevention and offering support to those affected by cancer. Fuck Cancer believes that people diagnosed with cancer, their families and support network should have equitable access to early detection, prevention and psychosocial support.
My goal is to raise $4,391. By the day of the race, that will be one dollar for every day that’s it’s been since my mother passed away.
In addition, my close friend and brother Max Siegleman will be running with me in support of FUCK CANER!
I appreciate you taking the time to read this, learn more about Fuck Cancer's mission and hope you will join me in the fight against cancer.
