BENEFITING: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
ORGANIZER: St. Jude
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I am running the 2017 Boston Marathon on behalf of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude is a world-class research hospital that provides treatment and care for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Consistent with the vision of its founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment regardless of race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.
Since opening in 1962, the treatments developed at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to over 80% today. For some cancers like Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) the survival rate is now over 90%! In addition, St. Jude patients are never billed for treatment. These facts just scratch the surface of what St. Jude represents and has accomplished, making it a truly remarkable organization that has helped thousands of children and their families.
I am running for St. Jude because I believe in every aspect of what the organization stands for. As a parent, I could not fathom the fear and sadness that comes with learning that your child has cancer. St. Jude however offers families a window of hope that, in many cases, is desperately needed during this scary, uncertain time. When families arrive at St. Jude they are greeted at patient intake with the phrase “we got this”. A simple phrase, but one that I think is very powerful.
As a member of the St. Jude marathon team, I had the opportunity last month to fly down to Memphis, Tennessee to visit the Hospital, tour the facilities, meet some of the families and meet various people that are all contributing to the mission of ending childhood cancer. Throughout the visit you could see the hope and love this place represents. You could see it on the faces of the doctors, nurses, scientists that are saving lives. And most importantly you could see it on the faces of the kids and their families who, in many cases, now call this place their home. This was all very emotional and at the same time inspirational, further cementing my support and belief for what St. Jude is doing.
My mission is to raise awareness and as much money as possible for this amazing organization. Running the Boston Marathon has provided a great platform to accomplish these goals. We are off to a great start! My goal is to raise over $30,000 and that is where I need your help! Please consider making a donation to St. Jude today. Every dollar we raise goes directly towards the research and treatment of children in need of help.
The below link will take you to my marathon fundraising page where you can make a donation using a credit or debit card. 100% of the proceeds raised on Crowdrise will be going to St. Jude.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support and I hope to see many of you out on the course come April 17th.
