Electrocution by uninsulated power transformers is the NUMBER ONE cause of death for howler monkeys in Costa Rica. Baby monkeys are orphaned because of this, others get severely burned and have limbs amputated. These injured and orphaned monkeys receive the help and care they need at SIBU Wildlife Sanctuary. Custom made insulation for the most dangerous transformers costs anywhere between $140 and $600, and there are currently 8 transformers that pose a great danger to the safety of howler monkeys in the Nosara region. Funds raised will go to the 'Stop the Shocks' project of SIBU Sanctuary and Refuge for Wildlife in Nosara, Costa Rica.
