Stop Bullying, Be Creative! Anti-Bullying Tour
Organized by: Tev Hemmans
Bullying has been detrimental to the lives of people all around the world. It is inevitably accepted as a 'phase' in a person's life. But as of recently, it has increased with the growing world of social media. It causes fear and creates a climate of disrespect in schools and has a negative impact on student learning.
There appears to be a strong relationship between bullying as a youth and experiencing legal and criminal problems as an adult. One study showed 60% of those characterized as a bully in grades 6-9, had one or more criminal convictions by age 24.
Recent surveys show that American children eight to 15 years of age rate bullying as a greater problem than racism, sexual pressure or the use of drugs & alcohol.
T.E.V (The Educated Voice) is an entertainer that survived the pressure of bullying throughout his earlier years of school. "It started in middle school. We wore uniform: slacks, button-down shirt and ties. But most guys wore their ties loose and their shirts untucked and I did the opposite, while drawing and sketching in every class. For that, I was called feminine. I felt like I had something to prove and I fought with myself over it, wanting to commit suicide. But sports and music changed that for me in a weird way. It was a way for me to express myself and release the negative energy," he exclaims.
After graduating high school to the University of New Haven, T.E.V and his colleagues put together a nationwide anti-bullying and anti-obesity school tour. T.E.V hosts and performs positive songs about change, perseverance and courage. The tour gained massive attention through media such as Pix11 news, News12 Brooklyn and newspaper spreads! The goal is to touch the hearts of adolescents affected by bullying and obesity and so far.. it has effected over 25,000 students in schools and community centers from California to New York.
Every year since 2011, we try to consistently visit schools but it COSTS! With the travel and hospitality expenses from visiting each school in a different state, it's difficult to be self-funded. So we need your help to keep going! HELP US to reach our goal so that we can reach more hearts around the world and put an end to end bullying!
