Stop Saving Youth: Midwest Convening
Organized by: Intergenerational Building
EVENT DATE Apr 22, 2016
At Creating Change and AMC 2015 we shut it down with our workshop "Stop Saving Youth and Help Us F@*# S#!% Up"! After over 90 minutes of real dialogue at both sessions around healthy youth-adult partnerships almost 50 participants said we should be given a full day to do this work.
We’re taking their advice and going big with Stop Saving Youth: Midwest Convening!
For 3 days in April (4/22-24) we will eat together, heal together, share stories and organizing strategies, and listen to one another so we intentionally build across generations.
We are raising $7,000 to support:
- Youth scholarships (for travel, food, and/or time off of work)
- “Thank you” stipends for healers/bodyworkers and community members donating services for the weekend.
- Cover a portion of the space costs
For over 1.5 years we've worked on developing models of healthy youth-adult partnerships as the Trans Youth Support Network with the support of Safe Spaces Project and when these organizations closed we learned that our collective work is not done. We've learned that this is more than work, it’s about how we live together. It’s also bigger than youth adult partnerships; it's how we build together.
This is how we build deep, strong, healthy relationships with each other. We cry. We laugh. We apologize. We learn. And we do it together!
