BENEFITING: US Association for UNHCR
I am really concerned about Syrian refugees and want to do more to help. I am a local author in the DC area, and would like to take a break from writing the second book of my series to raise money for USA for UNHCR's relief efforts in Syria, which I believe is more important. For each person who donates to my fundraising page, I will write a short story featuring a character with their name, or a loved one's, whichever they prefer. At the end of the campaign, I will compile the stories together and publish them as a book titled Stories for Syria.
In December 2016, violence in the besieged city of Aleppo erupted causing a new wave of displacement.
UNHCR and its partners are scaling up their humanitarian response in Aleppo to meet the needs of the newly displaced. Alongside food, water and protection services, one of the most pressing humanitarian needs is finding secure shelter for the newly displaced.
The onset of winter makes it even more vital that families are kept warm and dry – a small comfort after months spent living in constant fear.
Thanks to supporters, UNHCR is still on the ground coordinating a massive refugee response throughout the region and leading efforts to protect and provide shelter for those displaced inside Syria – working across conflict lines to provide critical aid under extremely dangerous circumstances.
UNHCR is facing a severe shortage in the funds needed to keep millions of refugees and displaced people fleeing violence warm and safe this winter. Your gift will help close the gap, and give vulnerable children, women and men hope for a safe future. Not just for winter, but every day of the year, around the world.
Participation is easy! When you donate through the page, please indicate in the comments the name of the person you would like to be featured in one of the sections of my next book, Stories for Syria. Together, we can show Syria's most vulnerable people that we care and they are not forgotten.
