BENEFITING: US Association for UNHCR
I am really concerned about Syrian refugees and want to do more to help. I am a local author in the DC area, and would like to take a break from writing the second book of my series to raise money for USA for UNHCR's relief efforts in Syria, which I believe is more important. To say thank you for each person who donates to my fundraising page, I will write a short story featuring a character with their name, or a loved one's, whichever they prefer. Also, to show gratitude towards every business or organization that donates to the fundraiser, I will name a location after the company or group in one of the short stories. At the end of the campaign, I will compile the stories together and publish them as a book titled Stories for Syria. The last day to donate to this campaign is December 31, 2017.
Funds go to USA for UNHCR and the book will be published sometime in the near future regardless of whether the fundraising goal is met as the funds are not for the book. The funds go to USA for UNHCR so they can continue to provide essential services to people displaced by crisis including food, water, and medical care.
More information about the crisis and what UNHCR is doing to help:
"More than 13 million innocent people need humanitarian assistance — and an entire generation of children is at risk.Syria is in ruins and its people are on the run from a nightmare that seems to have no end. Millions have been forced from their home but remain in Syria, while millions more have been forced to flee to neighboring countries — and their numbers and needs grow daily.
The worst part? Nearly half of the Syrian refugee population are children.
Thanks to supporters, UNHCR is still on the ground coordinating a massive refugee response throughout the region and leading efforts to protect and provide shelter for those displaced inside Syria – working across conflict lines to provide critical aid under extremely dangerous circumstances.UNHCR is facing a severe shortage in the funds needed to keep millions of refugees and displaced people fleeing violence warm and safe. Your gift will help close the gap, and give vulnerable children, women and men hope for a safe future. Not just today, but every day of the year, around the world." (USA for UNHCR)
Participation is easy! When you donate through the page, please indicate in the comments the name of the person you would like to be featured in one of the sections of my next book, Stories for Syria. Together, we can show Syria's most vulnerable people that we care and they are not forgotten.
