BENEFITING: Somaly Mam Foundation
EVENT DATE: Mar 17, 2012
I'm Crystal, a senior Environmental Science major at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. I decided this March 17th, I would skip some of the more traditional festivities and wake up early (yes...7am is early to me) to participate in the 5k portion of the Distance Festival, at Presque Isle State Park with my mom, sister, and our significant others. In the spirit of the day, I wanted to support a cause I feel strongly about and one I'm sure St. Patrick would support as well!
Millions of women and children are sold into slavery every year. The Somaly Mam foundation is a non-profit committed to ending modern day slavery and human-trafficking, world-wide. They provide many services to the women and children they rescue to help them regain control of their lives and futures.
I would love to raise $500 for this organization. They do so much good and raise awareness for an issue that many people think is something of "the past" So please, show your support to these strong women! Spread the word, donate, or just come out and have some fun this St. Patty's day :)
p.s. here's their website (i'm not sure if it links you there via this page):
