St. Rita Foundation School will use the Inclusive Model of Education to teach Children with Special Needs in inclusive classrooms.  See more

THE STORY:

Cameroon does not provide community settings for children with disabilites. There is a need for them to be treated like any other child. We are building a new school called "St. Rita" where these children will be served like any other child. If a child is different in learning there should be ways to help that child to learn differently so that the child can be able to develop his or her own potentials. Hopefully St. Rita Foundation School, located in Buea, Cameroon  will provide special needs children the unique opportunity to develop their potentials as they learn through the different educational services that can help them learn differently alongside their peers. There are 8 teachers and 164 pupils.

The creation of this school stems from my personal story of raising my son with a disability in the Cameroon school system that did not have services for him. Even though I was a certified teacher in the same school system, it did not help us much because I myself did not know what to do since educational services for children with disabilities had never been atticulated in the system including the teachers' training colleges. This  was the most daunting and challenging experience for me. However, in order to help my son and other children who are like him, I had to educate myself. Now with my educational background, I feel passionate for those grassroots families and illiterate parents in Cameroon who have no idea about what to do with their children who are like my son. If my son had help to improve on his life, I can as well help those innocent children who continue to be left at the mercy of their illiterate parents who do not know what to do with them. Knowing that the school project is born from a mother's passion to help her child and others like her from being denied education because of the circumstances under which their children were born, I wholeheartedly invite everyone to help me  make this happen in order to make a huge difference in the life of a child, and instill hope in their families.  It takes one person to start but it takes the whole village to educate the child. Your generous donations will be highly appreciated. Every penny counts. Thanks for all your support.
