BENEFITING: Muscular Dystrophy Association
EVENT DATE: Jun 04, 2017
My little brother, who has always been a best friend and a hero to me, has been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy FSHD, and with that, has had to give up on many of the things in his life that no 20-something year old should. He is moving on, and moving forward, with his amazing wife, beautiful baby boy, and with a strength that would crumble mountains. I grew up knowing that my grandmother had muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis and FSHD, but her strength and determination has always shined brighter than any darkness that could bring her down. She is one of the strongest people I know, and I can only imagine what she could accomplish if she weren't limited by MD. I will run until there is a cure. The cure is so close, and every bit counts. I'm running the Twin Lights Half Marathon for the fourth year in a row, and I want it to mean more than just the strength I carry from my family; I want to give back and help others become stronger. I've been running every single day for over three years now. I run because I can, and because I love to. No one should ever have anything that they love taken away from them. I'm running for my grandmother, I'm running for my brother, I'm running for me, and anyone whose life has been affected by any form of muscular dystrophy. Every penny goes directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which not only works towards research and a cure, but also helps those effected with the disease with aid such as home care, wheel chairs, scooters, hope, and so much more.
