Stronger Bethel: Send Filipino Girls to College
Organized by: Julianne Kristine Cosning
Way back in 2013, I got to join a competition where we proposed an idea on how we can help a community address a specific health problem. To cut the long story short, my teammates and I got our ideas accepted and we were rewarded with a seed money to help the kids of Matina Pangi, Davao City. We addressed the health issue which is malnourishment for six months. We did feeding program, we introduced them to a martial arts ministry which taught the kids karate for free and we also taught them how to do backyard gardening. Although the competition already ended, the community really left an impression on me.
As a working student way back in college, I understand the challenges poverty presents even among the brightest of minds and most passionate of spirit. With this fundraising, you can already send two girls to college. I have not told them about this crowdfunding that I am doing because I am scared to make promises I can't keep. My training as a volunteer taught me to be careful with saying promises especially to those who belong below the poverty line. They tend to have a harder time to trust because of previous experiences from the government, NGO's and other organizations.
