BENEFITING: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
Crohn's Disease - if you cringed a little, you're right, it's terrible and it's time to help do something about it. Personally I have been so tired of being sick and tired! I was diagnosed with Crohn's at the end of 2004 and after winding my way through treatment options and doctors finally found some options that started to work for me in getting my health back to a manageable level. In 2010 I really began focusing on becoming a much more active member of my own healthcare team. I got moving, became more accepting of my scenario and changed my diet completely - that July I completed my first half marathon with Team Challenge! However, although I am now doing generally well many Crohn's and Colitis patients are constantly battling their symptoms where each day can be a painful and unpredictable struggle. My sister on March 1, 2014, nearly 10 years after I was diagnosed has now become the latest member of the Crohn's family and was dealt a very painful welcome to this all encompassing and difficult disease. The increasing number of people dealing with Crohn's disease is unacceptable. I have continued running and am currently the healthiest I have been as a Crohn's patient. It's time to pay it forward once again - we need a cure!! I still have bad days on occasion and receive an IV treatment called Remicade every 8 weeks to keep my flare ups and symptoms at a minimum but this cannot be a permanent solution. Here's to being Stronger Than Crohn's Disease!
