Stuart's progress in recovery is still amazing, and he is "on fire". Latest financial is getting desperate, but we have an amazing See More

THE STORY:

Two years ago our family's lives changed when Stuart - our hardworking, caring, and giving Husband and Father - had a disabling stroke that left him paralyzed on his right side, and unable to speak. Stuart was our hero - and contributed to the community in his giving way, always working hard to give back even if it was only a smile and stopping briefly by someones home to check in that they were all right. His family knew that, but after the stroke and a daily take over of the hospital waiting room, we saw a community that shared our knowledge about this special man. After the stroke, it took seven months to start receiving a disability check, and previous hospital bills from prior health issues, now were being "collected" from the small paycheck I (Diele) received from my job with the school district. Everyone told me that one year would be the mark of recovery for Stu, and after that we would be at the peak of his gaining anything back......WELL, they were wrong! Now Stuart is soaring! I am wanting to continue getting him the help he needs to get back to his helping others. The issues are that medical insurance only allows a limited amount of therapy in some areas (and I supposedly have a very good insurance policy!), as well as secondary insurance from the State dictating and/or denying any continued help after the 45 visits are depleted - as well as trying to make needed changes or maintenance to our home as needed (NOT covered by insurance) . We will soon run out of insurance visits with Occupational and Speech, so it will either stop (and he will go backwards again) or we start paying out of pocket. On top of this, we now are struggling with keeping our house and fighting with the bank, who are threatening foreclosure. My main concern is to keep Stu non-stressed and moving forward in his recovery. I also want to share the knowledge of what we have learned - and am still learning - with others on life changing disabling medical events. We are still trying to maintain the home as a haven with the modifications needed for his disability, which is an ongoing construction issue. Since it may be years before Stuart is able to do the craftsmanship in his chosen occupation- I am selling off his business tools and other items. As this takes time, we need to continue to meet the needs he has medically. I will contribute back funds to others in need as things are sold. This is a "pay-forward" idea, that will hopefully continue to encourage as we see how determined and strong the human heart is when life is good and the person fighting thinks of others before themselves even in the face of their adversity! We need to become more aware of Traumatic Brain Injury caused by Stroke or accidents and the devastation that it causes to families and communities. Thank you for all the support from the community and the construction trade people Stuart has worked with the last 30 years!
