Student Study Abroad Trip to China
Organized by: Caleb Daniels
I am the high school History teacher at Lutie High School, and I am putting together a study abroad trip for 12 of my students to go to China in the summer of 2017. This is not a vacation for these students, in fact they will be required to complete a rigorous year long history of China course, keep daily journals on the trip, complete trip assignments and a final assessment that analysis their experience in China. The some students at Lutie have never been out of the county yet alone the country. Many believe they will never have the chance to leave the area, and I want to show them what a big and beautiful world we live in. One that requires cultural tolerance and acceptance of others ideas and ways of life. Jack Hannah once said; "The world is the true classroom. The most rewarding and important type of learning is through experience, seeing something with our own eyes." I believe this is true as well. Let's raise up a generation that is more accepting and tolerant of others and their culture. Here is a look at my vision for the trip. My vision for the China trip is for students to discover that through hard work and determination anything is possible. That to achieve a goal or dream requires diligence, commitment and the desire to reach that goal even when everyone around you says it can’t be done. Through this experience I want the students to develop strong values, integrity and tolerance of other cultures and their ideas. I want these students to recognize how amazing and big our world is and that they have the ability to make a difference and change it if they try. Finally, I want them to realize how lucky they are to live in a country with so many civil liberties and where there is so much opportunity. If they take from this experience the realization of their full potential in life then I think we have truly accomplished something great. Please help their greatness blossom.
