BENEFITING: DOMINICAN ACADEMY OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK
ORGANIZER: DOMINICAN ACADEMY OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK
EVENT DATE: Nov 29, 2016
Six years ago early on a Saturday morning I made the very first of my morning commutes to tour Dominican Academy as a prospective student. I was struck immediately by the red stairs, the newly rennovated lab, and the passionate accounts of the DA community by students and faculty. I left hoping that an offer to be in the Class of 2016 would arrive in the mail that January. Luckily, it did.
As a senior at Dominican Academy, I have had the opportunity to be part of a community that fosters intellectual curiousity, promotes the common good through service and classes, and found some of my best friends and role models. DA is singular in its rigorous academics, as it creates an atomsphere of growth through collaboraton. The all honors and AP cirriculum allows each student to challenge herself to her full academic ability. The teacher-student relationship is unmatched; teachers become mentors who push you to develop a true passion for the course of study.
As a small community, students are encouarged to assume positions of leadership. With this being said, it is great to have 35 clubs to be involved in. At the core of its mission, DA teaches us as young woman to develop out own ideas and use our knowledge for the common good. I have been able to go to Washington D.C and advocate for immigration reform, as well as conduct a Junior Advocacy Project with my friends.
Above all, I'm so grateful for the tradition of being with a group of girls and teachers who are all passionate about learning, service, and the DA community. Any donations in this campaign will go towards this amazing community I am able to call myself a part of. Perhaps most importantly, as someone who loves DA I want to see more opportunities become available and continue to grow the ones we have already. Help me give back to a place that has given me the best high school experience, and second home, I could ask for :)
