Mindy Early wrote -This year, 2016 Young Voices Monologue Festival will feature the creative voices of 18 amazing young writers from the Greater Philadelphia Area. A gift of $250 sponsors one of these powerful pieces, and ensures that Philadelphia Young Playwrights can continue to put student voices center stage. I am committed to raising $250 to sponsor a monologue written by a student from Penncrest High School. In his piece, Kicking It, a young man sits at his desk at home attempting do his homework. While that sounds simple, the young man has ADD and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which makes focusing and formulating ideas a challenge. Personally, I find this piece not only powerful, but also the most authentic depiction of a young person struggling with these realities that I have seen. The struggle with challenges such as ADD and PTSD is real, and this is a voice and a story that needs to be heard far and wide. If you would like to see just how powerful the performance of one of these monologues can be, check out a previous winner here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1aQZj_hGzE Even a gift of $5 helps me get one step closer to sponsoring this impactful piece! If gifts reach over $250, together we will support a second monologue in the festival, and I will share the story of another one of these amazing pieces with you. Let's pool our resources to support student voices! The Monologue Festival runs March 10-19th and you can get more information about public performances at www.phillyyoungplaywrights.org. Join me at a performance!
