BENEFITING: NEW VISIONS FOUNDATION
100% OF DONATIONS GO TO SFC to pay for tuition, classes, and equiptment (see our wish list below).
For a kid coming out of jail, going home often means going right back to the same place where he got in trouble. To break the cycle of incarceration common to so many of these young people, something needs to change.
For the last 10 years, some guys incarcerated at Camp David Gonzales have had access to creative arts and life skills classes. For the first time, the same classes, mentors and life skills available behind bars are now offered in the community.
The Student First Center (SFC) opened its doors in October 2012 for youth who have been involved in the juvenile justice system and want support transitioning back into their communities and realizing their full potential with continued arts and education programs.
The SFC staff provides youth with a continued forum for their creativity and education with services such as; arts and mentorship programs, tutoring, GED completion, college application assistance, supportive case management and referrals, and opportunities for leadership development.
SFC aims to maintain and enhance the educational, vocational, relational, and coping skills that students developed in camp providing continued services to realize their full human potential.
SFC bridges the gap between an individual’s potential and personal success.
The New Visions program itself serves over 100 kids every year, and continues to grow and make a difference with programs like SFC.
