Support our mission by creating your own fundraiser.
As parents, educators, citizens, we ask ourselves: What do we want for our children? How do we imbue them with hope, gratitude, kindness, and a love for humanity that will carry them through the travails of life, which we hear about, and sometimes experience, every day in world and local news, with their spirits intact?
Show them that compassion is personally rewarding. Demonstrate, through your example, the satisfaction and happiness that giving openheartedly and without regard to season or circumstance brings. Join us in helping more children receive a quality education by becoming a contributor to The Studio School’s Virginia O’Hanlon Scholarship Fund.
In the immortal words of hope that New York Sun editor Francis Pharcellus Church wrote to Virginia O’Hanlon in 1897: “Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.”
Mr. Church’s famous editorial was published in September 1897 – not in December, because the point he was making was that all of the qualities he cites – love, generosity, and devotion – are timeless. Our scholarship was named in honor of Virginia O’Hanlon, the little girl who wrote the letter that elicited this famous response, and who later became a teacher, and then a principal in the New York city school system.
Her curiosity and optimism remain very much alive in her former house—the very home in which she wrote the letter - now The Studio School—where children from 2 to 14 follow a rigorous academic curriculum taught in small classes, by teachers trained to nurture their natural curiosity and encourage independent thinking. Through the Virginia O’Hanlon Scholarship, The Studio School is able to provide this education to children whose families could not otherwise afford it. Making a contribution to this fund is the perfect way to embrace the spirit of giving all year round.
Through our Crowdrise.com campaign, we hope to raise the funds for one year’s tuition to provide a worthy child with the opportunity to attend The Studio School starting in September 2013.
Join us in spreading this opportunity, and forward this link http://www.crowdrise.com/vohscholarship to family and friends, so they may help fund a child’s Studio School education. To donate is as simple as pointing and clicking the above “Donate” button.
