BENEFITING: Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council Inc
The funds are for the scholarship. The Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council is establishing an Ashley Hardaway Theriot study abroad memorial scholarship. Since our office is managing this page, it labels the funds as benefiting us, but that is not the case. All donations are for the scholarship.
The Hardaway family donated $1,000 to kick off the campaign and the Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council has committed to donating $500 a year to an annual University of West Florida (UWF) study abroad scholarship. We invite you to join us. If we raise $25,000, we will reach the minimum amount required by UWF for an endowed scholarship which means it would last in perpetuity.
The scholarship will be based on an essay and on the student’s commitment to community service. We think Ashley would like this idea and we hope you do too. (Insert pixie dust here. Combine it with the love and laughter Ashley brought to our lives.)
If you would prefer to give via check, please make your donation to the Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council and indicate AHT Memorial Scholarship on the memo line. Our mailing address is 223 Palafox Place, Room 200, Pensacola, FL 32502.
Since we are a 501(c)(3) organization, both checks and online donations are tax-deductible.
A donations page to help with medical and funeral expenses has also been established in Ashley's name by friends of the family. If you would also like to contribute toward that effort, please CLICK HERE.
Ashley was generous even in death with six successful organ transplants. With this scholarship, we honor her adventuresome spirit, dedication to service, and moxie. She was amazing, magical, and caring and spread joy wherever she went. She was witty and talented beyond measure. Ashley was also an intrepid traveler and was dedicated to citizen diplomacy, the concept that closing the gaps between people and cultures is a responsibility we each have in creating a better world.
Could she write? You bet she could! Did she see value in community service? Heck yeah! (We're looking at you, Peace Corps and the International Visitor Leadership Program.) Her infectious spirit resulted in smiles and laughter among all surrounding her. When you were with Ashley, you knew her attention was on you and that she was really listening to what you had to say. She will be terribly missed.
Friends & family are collecting photos online, and we invite you to view them through this link.
