Studying abroad for a long lasting experience
Organized by: Faiza Qazi
The satisfied look in my dad’s eyes when we got on the flight to United States was the most emotional thing I have ever seen. That look which was clearly showing how glad he was that his children will now be able to receive equal rights and most of all, the right to their education. In that moment, all I saw was gratitude, and no sign of regrets of leaving his whole career in court, and his luxurious life. We came to United States six years ago, and all the time till today that we have been here, I saw a transition of my dad’s life from having a worry free life to a worrisome life. My dad not only works to provide me only, but my mom and four others of my siblings, and his determined life is what drives my motivation in all aspects of my life. Whether its education or things outside of school, he’s the reason I excel. You should surround yourself with the people who see the greatness with in you, but he was the greatness I saw which inspired me to be that great too. To start on that I applied to study abroad, to assimilate with cultures I’m unaware of. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have been approved for the program, but there are some costs that are hard for my family to cover and that’s what I’m here to do. To start off, going abroad program will not only be an opportunity to travel, but a way for me to gain real life experience in interacting with people, which also means assimilating cultures and familiarizing myself with people of different background. This part to this is really important to me because it’s sad how can definitely say that there’s equality, but here we are today generalizing and making assumptions on people without actually getting to know them. If I am able to receive an opportunity to travel there, I would not only like to know people there, but represent myself for who I am, represent America, and my school. The next best thing I could take advantage of while in Japan would be to try and learn a new language. In today’s national economy, there can be nothing more beneficial than to learn a new language. Without communication, an individual doesn’t have power to do anything and the opportunity to go abroad and communication with people I’m not familiar with will give me a chance to experience real life situations, chance for me to gain even more confidence, and best of all to give me a chance to say that I have friends across the world.
